Internal stressors, as the name suggests, are the ones that are connected to your bodily functions. Basically, anything that makes you feel pressured from the inside can be called an internal stressor. Examples are your diet, aesthetic cravings, or individual interests and goals. These can utterly affect the way you think, behave, and act.
External stressors are factors in your environment or surroundings. These can be anything that causes you to feel restricted in fully expressing yourself: your desires, thoughts, and actions. Some examples are pollution, traffic jam, social relations, work and job demands, racial discrimination, unhealthy relationships, major life changes, and many others.
After identifying the stressors in your life, you now have deal with it in the most effective way. Stress becomes dangerous when it keeps on increasing and left uncontrolled, so it is imperative that you find ways to manage them.
There are a lot of available tools and techniques on how you can effectively manage stress. Here are some of them:
1. Exercise. Yes, keeping your body active and in shape is a very important tool in reducing stress. It helps in reducing muscle tension caused by stress and it keeps you in a healthy condition which makes you more responsive to any adverse situations. A moderate exercise that involves a 30-40 minute routine of brisk walking, dancing, or even performing chores can be a good exercise regimen. You can also try breathing exercises to help you cool down.
2. Healthy Food Choices. A good diet is another way to reduce stress because wrong food choices can lead to increased stress levels. Eat green leafy vegetables such as brocolli, lettuce, and cabbage. Mackerel and tofu are also helpful in reducing stress, as these are loaded with magnesium which is a very potent stress busting mineral.
3. Meditation. There are a lot of meditation techniques that you can employ. One of the most popular is yoga which teaches one how to reach an absolute relaxation of the mind and body.
4. Visualization and Positive Thinking. These are techniques by which you change a negative thought of something into a positive one. Learning to visualize and being more optimistic are surefire ways to relieve you from stress. Stay in an optimistic mode as much as possible.
